Are you weird like me? Do you prepare your answers to questions that haven't been asked in advance? I do. We'll get to that.
I have officially been on vacation for... about 24 hours. On Friday, I finished my residency (woohoo!) and then drove to Buffalo. Then on Monday I went and visited all the offices in Buffalo that refer to me except two, which were an hour away. On Tuesday, I went to visit the remaining two offices and then went to my first staff meeting at my new office. I spent 3.5 hours in the car that day! And, I got my new NY driver's license!
(Sort of... the new one will officially be here in 3 weeks. Also, they took away my PA liscense. And I'm just going to say, for all the crazy shenanigans of the PA DMV - including, but not limited to, not accepting any payment except check and not being available certain hours of certain weekdays for no real reason, I will say this - those people take great photos. I looked awesome in all three of my DMV photos. And I have had some very bad photos. I just wanted to keep my ID to prove I could, actually, look good in a goverment issue ID. [As a side note, at the VA they don't let you smile in the photos. So I just looked angry on my ID. For three years.])
Point is - two very busy days! So, today I relaxed. I slept in (until 7:40) and then did nothing. By nothing, I mean that I vacuumed, prepped dinner, played with/fed/took out/hung out/snuggled Duncan, paid all the bills, did the paperwork for our electric snafu refund, waited around for our drywall guy to show up for 4 hours, then went for a run, then went to Aldi, and then came home. Oh. I also watched three episodes of Grey's Anatomy.
So, after the drywall guy was four hours late (what?!?!) he made some unfortunate comment like, "Oh, are you on vacation? Must be nice." And I totally had a response locked and loaded, "Well, it's the first day off I've really had in three years." And then I realized that I had planned that answer several hours before. Why? Why do I feel like I need to justify being home on a random Wednesday? Am I feeling guilty about being off work for 12 days? What is my deal?
I think I am officially weird.
Anyway, then I went for the worst run in all history. I realized recently that we both are signed up for a half-marathon in about 115 days and we haven't worked out at all since the half in Pittsburgh. So today, I headed out for a 2.5 mile run (talk about a good goal!) but with the 89 degree weather and what felt like that 6 million percent humidity, I made it exactly 1.62 miles. Very pathetic. But, it's a start, right? Better than nothing? Maybe? Anyone?
Well, I am off to enjoy vacation by drinking beer and relaxing. I am also going to make some awesome Banana-Coconut bread later (recipe to come!)
Happy Independence Day, all! Enjoy your day off!
